Sudden Beauty

Form one moment to the next, who knows what may happen? Just as I was about to leave the temple, I decided to have a quick look at the graveyard. Suddenly, this butterfly alighted on the higanbana flower. A soul of the newly freed departed, perhaps?

This, by the way, was my 500th post here. A quick shout of appreciation to all those who have linked here and/or enjoyed the photos contained. In terms of hits, it is my most successful blog, due in no small part to being found daily through google images and sometimes Stumble Upon. I hope to reach out more and also give my other blogs the time they need, but other writing is currently taking precedence.

May A Day in the Life live long and prosper, with your help as much as mine!

Adios,

Starfire

Sankeien Lotuses 1

The harsh summer sun is too much for many flowers to endure, but these water lotuses were in full bloom, in Sankeien Garden, in Yokohama. Their delicate colours go well with the rich green.

Just the sight of them cools one down and the ancients must have had a lot of sense planting them there.

Tiny Flower

Here's one small flower, like a star hanging in the breeze. It truly is an amazing universe, with so many levels of events going on, so many existances, only a small fraction of which we ever even notice. Like a returning adventurer, though, the artist-photographer can bring news of these hidden events to others. It paints a picture of a far more wonderful universe than we might realise. By realising these truths, we make them our own.

A Small Detail

Looking more closely at the flowers, you find each one existing in it's own little world. World within world, making this garden a good place to explore the Buddhist teachings.

Rings

There is also this 'ring' or lacecap variety, which has a delicate quality that's easy to miss.

Hydrangeas

Recently the rain has brought these beautiful hydrangeas into bloom. You can see more about the day on Perfect Futures. The colours have always truck me as looking like they were painted with water-pastels. With a lovely combination and such a soft effect- the cosmic artists certainly did a remarkable job here!

Paradise Central

It was the first meeting of the Tiny Universe camera club. Here is a lily we saw in the valley (well, in the shrubbery!) Now you see why bees find them so irresistible.

Hondoji Sakura Macro

Macros are incredibly hard to get, as they sway around in the breeze so much. Here's one that came out okay. They are sort of like natural bouquets, entrancing to see and smell.

Views of London- Orange Rose

An Orange Rose.

Hello, back again! After quite a hiatus due to my trip back, it's time to say more about those days in the life I've had over the summer. How better to do that than with HDR and tone-mapping? This is a rose from my mother's garden, at it's very peak. Tone-mapping really brings out the details that the bright sunlight can hide.

Another Walk, Another Flower

Another walk, another flower. I need never be bored again, with the world of macro opening up before me! An oasis in the desert of the Real.

Hoverfly Harmonies

What interested me most was this hoverfly. I just couldn't believe it could have such similar colours to the flower, like they were literally made for each other. The yellow body and yellow center, the red eyes and red petals. Simply amazing. Posted by Picasa

Perhaps the entire universe is a spiral or a fractal... wouldn't it be nice to know? (Please read my comment posted below for more.)

Thanks to psu80e for this spiral!
