Mysterious Cloud Landscape

To my astonishment, flashes of distant lightening appeared from within this, like a giant, flickering plasma-ball. It was as if the cloud was alive in some way. Yet there was no sign of rain anywhere nearby.

The Face of Clouds

Just after I came back, these incredible clouds shone in the sky. I'd never seen something so fluffy and mysterious before, they were a revelation of a world going far beyond my imaginings-

"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy."

Plum Bloosom Girl

With the spring blossoms, also come beautiful girls in yukatas to celebrate them. This girl is holding some momo-nohana, or peach blossoms, that we saw near the balloons.

Cherry Blossom Snow

Snow? No, falling cherry blossoms, in one of their last days, surrounding people like us having 'hanamis', cherry-blossom picnics. They have a magical quality and are one of the highlights of the year in Japan.

Soft Light

The early morning gives a different, delicate light that only exists for fleeting moments, just like the ume (plum blossom) themselves. The whole experience is like a warming illustration of Zen teachings. Live in the moment, for the moment is all that there is...

Morning Light

Sorry for not posting here for a while.. the blog may have been as dormant as Mt Fuji, but be assured that it is still alive!

Here is an example of the ume that flourished in March, just in time for the beginning of my Spring break and some enlightening, early-morning day-trips to Hondoiji.

Tiny Flower

Here's one small flower, like a star hanging in the breeze. It truly is an amazing universe, with so many levels of events going on, so many existances, only a small fraction of which we ever even notice. Like a returning adventurer, though, the artist-photographer can bring news of these hidden events to others. It paints a picture of a far more wonderful universe than we might realise. By realising these truths, we make them our own.

A Small Detail

Looking more closely at the flowers, you find each one existing in it's own little world. World within world, making this garden a good place to explore the Buddhist teachings.

Rings

There is also this 'ring' or lacecap variety, which has a delicate quality that's easy to miss.

Yoko

The other member of Tiny Universe, who also loves to take macro photographs, especially of flowers. You can see her lovely blog, Wonderful World (it's in Japanese, but you can always read the photos!)

Constellation of Leaves

Everyone seems to like these fresh green leaves. They do have a kind of living-crystal appearance to them, so regular, but so pleasingly scattered. It is the light that makes them for us.

Shadow-Play

It also produced these wonderful silhouettes of ferns. Ferns, how I love ferns!

Leaf in Darkness

The light came and went under the swaying branches, like a spotlight on creation.

Paradise Central

It was the first meeting of the Tiny Universe camera club. Here is a lily we saw in the valley (well, in the shrubbery!) Now you see why bees find them so irresistible.

Flickrs of Light

It was a few days before the first outing of the Tiny Universe camera club and I had some spare time and a spare camera, so it was back to Tozenji. Here are some ferns in the last flickers of sunlight.

Home Sweet Home

Finally, I made my way home, where the sunset was there to be enjoyed. Hear more about all of this on my PerfectFutures blog.

Fields and Trees

The rich colours of the soil and trees somehow relaxes me. The fertile earth makes all kinds of life possible- so simple, but so full of life. Of course, breathing in the fresh air and smells of spring make for an experience you just can't get at home, at least not without smell-o-vision.

Tranquil Shrine

Everywhere you go, you can find small sacred sites, most of them still being quietly used. Wherever you find them, there is also tranquil nature.

Prayers in the Wind

Even the prayer-books were left, their pages fluttering around.

Abandoned Shrine

There was this disused shrine amongst the trees, too. It had just been left there, forgotten.
